History

Use of this land site for waste disposal dates back to the 1960's. Erstwhile a captive industrial waste landfill for Monsanto – Addyston, in 1999 the situation was transferred to Bond Moving Site Iraqi National Congress., which was later nonheritable in 2001 aside Rumpke.  The situation consists of approximately 128 landed estate, with 60 acres permitted for disposal of Municipal Solid Pine away (MSW).  The site has been relatively dormant over the past two decades receiving 1-2 mountain of waste annually.  This has been in part due to roads serving the site which are difficult for hand truck traffic to navigate.

Facility Limit

Who responds to odour complaints for this land site? What trucks come into the site?  Incoming waste is mostly in rear or front loader bagger trucks, roll-off, or dump trucks.

Hamilton County World Health (HCPH) has been part of a team comprised of Ohio EPA, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Hamilton County Department of Environmental Services (HCDOES) and Colerain Fire Department – representing Colerain Township involved in monitoring elevated railway well temperatures and working to remedy the situation.

HCPH and HCDOES have a continued presence at the landfill monitoring air quality and investigating odor complaints. Air sampling of the areas surrounding the landfill does not signal air pollution levels that would pose short or long full term health effects.

Rumpke Sanitary Landfill Questions and Answers

We receive frequent questions happening the operation of landfills in William Rowan Hamilton County.

When conducting onsite inspections, whether attached odors or not, inspectors evaluate trading operations and how they may comprise affecting odor generation. Operators are instructed to correct these issues if/when discovered.  HCPH conducts ordinary inspections and assess odor sources during these inspections.  If a check odor is detected off-site, an on-site assessment of odor sources is conducted.

How often are inspections of Rumpke performed by HCPH? A minimum of 26 routine inspections are performed to each one year.

Are these inspections scheduled? With a couple of exceptions to see tonality faculty are available during our situation visit, inspections are not scheduled, they are unannounced.
